Schools

Healthy. Flexible. Durable.

School boards can face changing needs for student enrollment as their community populations grow or demographics shift.

Fero eases the impact of these often-unexpected changes by:

  • building single classrooms or multi-classroom complexes

  • delivering them directly to the site

  • installing them on a school site quickly and efficiently

Our modular design solutions are engineered to support robust construction and indoor environmental quality, providing durable and healthy learning spaces for students and teachers.

A healthy learning environment

Our FMC2023 modular classrooms are designed to foster high-quality learning.

Sheet flooring using low-VOC adhesives complements paperless vinyl-covered drywall raised up on plastic strips to resist undesirable effects caused by moisture intrusion.

Three large energy-efficient windows deliver positive daylighting and passive ventilation. At the same time, the interior unit ventilator offers conditioned heating, cooling and fresh air ventilation—not to mention CO2 sensors—all designed to create more comfort for more students.

Flexible and functional

Every classroom we build surpasses Ontario Building Code SB-10 Division 3, Zone 7 standard for energy efficiency. In other words, you can be assured every Fero classroom performs at a high level of efficiency—no additional customization is required, even for remote communities.

Each FMC2023 classroom has three one-hour fire-rated walls, allowing them to be positioned closer together on the school site, allowing you to maximize adjacent spaces such as parking lots and playgrounds.

Although many design features come standard to meet code requirements, school boards can add or change elements such as electrical devices, millwork, interior flooring finishes or exterior cladding colors. The choice is yours.

Durable and sustainable

If we asked a facility or maintenance manager at a school board to characterize their key performance criteria in a modular classroom, we’re certain they would agree that life-cycle durability and low maintenance are at the top of the list.

Our recycled steel–framed modular classrooms and complexes are built with the structural strength to move and the durability to last. We know that modular classrooms can be subject to extra wear and tear due to students directly accessing the classroom from the outside, so our attention to detail in moisture resistance provides additional peace of mind.

Walls, floors and roofs are designed with thermal performance in mind, while energy-efficient features—such as LED lighting, occupancy sensors, and high-performing windows and glass—will also help school boards save on energy costs year after year.

See how it all comes together

Fero’s innovative approach using volumetric modular construction makes it easier, quicker and more affordable for a school board to scale up to meet capacity compared to traditional construction. Our classroom modules are quickly installed on a site with simple utility hookups to get them up and running in a few days.

Features

  • Durability: The strength in our steel-frame construction creates long-term durability.

  • Thermal efficiency: Wall, floor and roof assemblies are designed to meet the stringent energy-efficiency requirements of SB-10 Division 3.

  • Energy savings: Classrooms feature LED lighting with occupancy sensors, while the unit ventilator is equipped with an energy recovery wheel and occupancy sensor.

  • Easily relocatable: Our standard two-piece classrooms can be quickly delivered, installed and relocated as needs change.

  • Peace of mind: Our classrooms are designed to resist the effects of potential moisture intrusion, which can cause deterioration or mold.

  • Customizable: Aside from code requirements, our classrooms’ millwork, finishes and features can be customized to suit individual school board needs.

  • Capacity: Our state-of-the-art, 300,000 square-foot manufacturing facility can produce large quantities of modular classrooms and classroom complexes to meet the demands of school boards today.
