Why choose modular construction?
Quality, cost certainty, time savings, safety and sustainability
Amid housing shortages, surgical backlogs and rapidly changing needs for education systems, “why modular?” is a question that every decision maker needs to ask.
At Fero, all of our modular buildings are designed to be complete stand-alone facilities or additions to much larger building projects. Robust engineering ensures that each modular unit can be easily transported and withstand extreme climates. Fully customizable and rapidly scalable, the building blocks of your next infrastructure project are ready for you at Fero.
Still not sure about modular? Here are five reasons that show the value that modular construction will bring to your next project.
Quality
Our rigorous, certified quality assurance and control program ensures complete control of inspections through every step of the way.
As part of our process, we always coordinate with owners, consultants, suppliers, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to facilitate inspection test plans, along with regularly scheduled building reviews at both our facility and on site. Fero is certified to CSA A277, CSA A660 and CWB W47.1 standards.
We complete as much as 90% of your building in our controlled manufacturing environment, meaning our materials and workforce avoid exposure to extreme weather.
Cost certainty
To achieve optimal outcomes, modular construction requires early planning and decision making. By reducing project uncertainty, we help you achieve better cost certainty.
By the time your building is ready for production, all decisions have been made and all related costs have been identified, minimizing—or even eliminating—costly and unexpected change orders.
Time savings
When compared to the timelines of conventional construction, choosing off-site construction allows you to accelerate your project timelines significantly.
At Fero, your project schedule acceleration is a result of our focus on four key factors:
Effective project planning and management
Early, collaborative decision making
Efficient plant fabrication processes with high-capacity production output
Concurrent building in our facility (fabrication) and at the project site (development)
Health and safety
Fabrication of your building takes place indoors in a safe, regulated and conditioned plant environment.
Because we’re operating in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, we’re able to drastically reduce the amount of on-site activity and the related safety hazards of on-site construction.
This also significantly reduces the noise and other pollutants at your project site, both for your workforce and your neighbouring community.
Sustainability
At its core, modular construction offers inherent sustainability benefits.
Our project delivery method helps optimize the practice of circular construction, from design considerations and waste avoidance to reduced GHG emissions or pollutants. Plus, if your building has reached the end of its service life, rather than demolition or abandonment, it can more readily be deconstructed and moved to serve a new community.
Compared to the environmental impact of conventional construction, the benefits are clear.
Innovating is our business
Our buildings can be used for a variety of market applications, from intensive care units and classrooms to temporary shelter and permanent housing.
All Fero buildings are thoughtfully designed to suit today’s critical infrastructure needs in a variety of markets. Engineering for each application and location, we can provide robust, customized solutions, fabricated and shipped from our site to yours. Each building can include the features, finishes and equipment necessary to get you up and running sooner than any conventional build.
